11 months ago the Los Angeles area got a year's worth of rain and faced life-threatening flooding and mudslides now it's on fire after its driest start to a water year on record. These are the increasing extremes of a warming world.

80,000 people told to evacuate. Blazes 0% contained. Eight months since the area has seen rain. The scale of damage and loss is unimaginable. Climate change is real, not “a hoax.” Donald Trump must treat this like the existential crisis it is.

Heartbroken by the devastation from the LA fires and high winds. Grateful I haven’t had to evacuate (I’m a few blocks south of the evacuation zone for Eaton Fire), but some of my friends/ JPL coworkers had to. Hoping everyone is safe, and that their houses and JPL make it.🤞🏼

JPL will remain closed next week. We’re hearing that more than 150 of our colleagues have lost their house in the fire. I’m so heartbroken for everyone. 😭 JPL restera fermé la semaine prochaine. On vient d’apprendre que plus de 150 de nos collègues ont perdu leur maison. 😭
