These slides by Ramez Naam are the most optimistic, exciting thing you'll see today. Maybe all week. Maybe all year. dropbox.com/s/l6qr9x1zhvc4…

If we switched to renewable energy, the number of ships crossing the ocean would fall almost in half. Because they're just carrying coal and oil and gas billmckibben.substack.com/p/the-happiest…

#EarthDay: everybody has a part to play in reversing climate change - here is what @shopify is doing (for every RT of this tweet, we will plant one 🌲)

Every week, I talk to someone looking to transition into #climate from tech. It makes me so damn optimistic. When they ask me where to look for opportunities, here's what I say:

I’m excited to launch something that’s been in the works for a while - the Climate Tech Canada job board! A place to connect amazing talent that’s looking to move into climate with 🇨🇦 companies working on climate solutions. What to expect 👇 climatetechcanada.softr.app

"2 degrees warmer on average" also does a bad job of describing the temperatures we actually experience. What matters is that when you push up an average, you push out the extremes. Phoenix experiences 4x as many days of searing heat as in the 1950s, Paris 8x as many, London 10x

“many Canadians turn to central air conditioners to cool their homes … this is a missed opportunity to switch to heat pumps, which are more energy-efficient and can both heat and cool.” Story on report I helped write released today nationalobserver.com/2023/08/23/new…

Canadian Climate Institute (@climateinstit) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#HeatPumps are incredibly efficient: 2 to 5 times more efficient than the best gas furnace. And they’re a 2-for-1, providing both heating and cooling. This cuts energy bills and carbon pollution at the same time—and can provide potentially life-saving cooling in a heat wave.

We had a lot of fun with this one! Despite a 100amp panel constraint, you can often still install a fully electric cold climate heatpump when sized correctly. If your furnace dies and you need to replace it last minute, don’t lock yourself to gas for another 20yrs. 💪 ⚡️ 🏡

Canadians, if you‘re considering switching to a heat pump to heat and cool your home, and you’re curious about utility bill costs, pay back period, and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, I made a thing for you. Link 👇

Why no one has home storage — YET Battery pack prices have totally collapsed — at high volumes, this means that enough batteries to *totally flatten* a home’s peak electricity demand cost no more than about $1,500. That means never paying for electricity from 4-9PM.
