There are 2 major types of #tcells: i) CD8 T cells, aka killer T cells, specialize in finding and killing intruders. ii) CD4 T Cells, or helper #t cells, provide a variety of support functions to tune the activity of other #immune cells. #cellstories

Natural Killer (#nkcells) are #immunesystem early responders. They're usually first on scene when something seems wrong. NK cells can immediately start fighting any suspicious characters and sound the alarm to attract more targeted special forces, like #tcells! #cellstories

#Monocytes patrol the body for suspicious activity and can then transform into #antigenpresentingcells that activate more specialized #immunesystem defenses! #cellstories

How do #tcells figure out who to kill? The specialized MHC-I receptors are critical to showing T cells foreign invaders within a #cell. #CD8 T cells rely on this receptor to identify which cells are infected and attack!

While our #immunesystem is very powerful, #cancer can be tricky to fight. Cancerous cells are very similar to normal cells and hard to detect by an immune system that evolved to fight infectious diseases, e.g. viruses, which are obviously foreign. #cellstories
