Countdown: 2 Days to World Mosquito Day! Only female mosquitoes bite! They need the protein from blood to develop and mature their eggs. Males don’t bite at all. Instead, both male and female mosquitoes feed on plant nectar for energy.

After heavy rainfall, you might notice more mosquitoes around—and more bites. That’s because rain creates the perfect conditions for mosquitoes to breed. You can take personal protective measures and also work on environmental controls.

As rainfall increases, mosquitoes also come out in full force — and with them, the risk of West Nile virus. It usually starts with a simple mosquito bite. This summer, enjoy the outdoors — but do it safely. A simple bite can change everything. Stay aware, stay protected.
