Social and emotional learning (#SEL) isn’t only a program or classroom lesson. It’s a critical and integral component of teaching and learning.

I saw this written on my math teachers board this week when I popped into her room. Every day, she asks her students a different question. What does this have to do with math? NOTHING! But you don’t get to know your students by only talking about math. This fires me up!

Yes students need rules, but even more so they need routines, boundaries, high expectations, and responsibilities. The first doesn't require relationships just enforcement, but the rest depend on a strong relationship to be effective.
