They showed that plasmonic hotspots created at these nanogaps could enhance the fluorescence of a weak emitter by 10,000-folds. They believe that their approach will contribute to push boundaries of single-molecule imaging beyond a few highly fluorescent dyes.

They established nanorod’s surface charge as a key control parameter directing the growth of end-to-end attached gold nanorod assemblies linked via short dithiols (a type of organosulfur compound). The team members include Ashish Kar, Varsha Thambi, and Diptiranjan Paital.

#IITGNResearchCapsule 43: Sourav Mukul Tewari, former MTech student of Mechanical Engineering IIT Gandhinagar, working with Prof Ravi Sastri Ayyagari, has proposed a simple method that uses mapping to create complex shapes (e.g., fork or spring) with embedded defects.

Interestingly, the method also uses a gaming algorithm for this purpose. Handling defects smaller than the size of a single grain is one of its key contributions. The work is published in Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME). #ResearchersAtIITGN #Metal

In machines, tangential force on the rotating part results in output torque. However, a dominant force component is present along radial directions, which doesn't lead to rotatory motion. Recent publications have shown interest in obtaining increased tangential forces in machines

The work uses analytical expressions of 3 different methods of torque estimation and would help designers understand the inherent limitations of cylindrical machines with small space between the stationary & rotating part of the machine in the context of improving torque density.

Dr Prabhakar, who was then Director of Exploration and Excavation in ASI, is now an Associate Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at IITGN. IIT Gandhinagar has undertaken and completed several projects which have enriched our knowledge about this protohistorical culture.

“The renowned ASI archaeologist, Dr R S Bisht, directed excavations at the site for years. Archaeological Sciences Centre IIT Gandhinagar, through Dr Prabhakar, assisted Dr Bisht in the preparation of Dholavira’s excavation report in 2015,” recounts Prof Michel Danino of IITGN.

“The ASC IIT Gandhinagar conducted an aerial multi-sensor drone survey of Dholavira for the ASI in Dec 2019 and submitted its report a few months later. ASI used some of these imageries in the dossier it submitted to UNESCO.” – Prof Michel Danino, Guest Prof & Coordinator, ASC, IITGN.
