In a polarized world, a key to happiness is being hard to offend. Feeling slighted takes a toll. It's possible to object without getting upset. Rudeness says more about the perpetrator than the target. If they haven't earned your respect, they don't deserve your attention.

Watched a local TV story about neighbors concerned about an encampment. All of the interviews of concerned neighbors were shot in shadow or otherwise obscured. If you’re going to do a story on people complaining about something - I feel like they have to identify themselves.

A mark of emotional maturity is hearing disagreement without taking offense. Thoughtful dissent doesn't always mean you're wrong. It often means the issue is complex and your knowledge is incomplete. Good-faith debate isn't an attack. It's an opportunity to sharpen your ideas.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- Be better than the 'Busy Airport Package.' Yes, more people are flying. But that's expected. IMO, there has to be more than that to justify a two-minute package. If it's not there, cover something else in your community.

Young journalists: you have the right to ask anything you want in an interview. And your interview subject has the right to deflect, not answer or get up and leave. This is not PR. The book was mentioned. The book was shown. That's how these deals work all the time.
