Deep into thesis writing and the delete key on my keyboard works approximately 25% of the time. Quickly approaching the feeling of writing my thesis on a typewriter 😅

Getting to be a part of this project was the honor of a lifetime. So many people to thank but to highlight a few Karen Miga & Adam Phillippy who led the entire project. Marina Haukness & Mark Diekhans who led the annotation efforts and of course my advisor Steven Salzberg 💙💛

12 years ago today I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer. Last month I dedicated my thesis work to him with this last slide. Miss you everyday dad!

"Implications of the first complete human genome assembly" in Genome Research genome.cshlp.org/content/32/4/5… Lots of good stuff in here, but this quote from @meganamsu really makes me smile 😊 High-five Karen Miga 🙌

Don’t tell Women you respect them, then vote for a party who takes away their rights. Don’t tell Gay people you’re a friend, then vote for a party that calls them groomers. Don’t tell Black people you’re not racist, then vote for a party that’s anti-BLM It’s not “just politics”

A party that takes away abortion rights but refuses to provide support for pregnant women who need help with medical care including birth expenses, housing, food, child care & schooling, employment, etc, is most definitely not pro-life.

This week I graduated from Johns Hopkins with my Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and was hooded by my wonderful advisor Steven Salzberg 💙💛. After spending a significant part of grad school doing everything remotely, it felt extra special to have the ceremony in person this year!

It’s been an honor to contribute to the annotation of the T2T Y chr! The preprint of the first truly complete human Y chromosome is now available! Big thank you to my amazing mentor Alaina Shumate, PhD and PI Steven Salzberg 💙💛 and of course everyone in the T2T consortium!!

Remarkable work led by Arang Rhie and Adam Phillippy, finishing the human Y chromosome. It might be small but its complex structure made it super-difficult to complete. Pleased that my former student Adam Phillippy included my lab members Alaina Shumate, PhD and Jakob Heinz in the work
