Earlier today our team of enumerators set off to Ngoma district as we begin the pilot phase of a project to support farmers through their cooperatives. Agriterra Rwanda

Our team was in Nyanza district today where we visited KOBANYA cooperative and sample tested their maize produce for Aflatoxins and grading. The maize was then sold onto the market aflatoxin-free. 🌽

Our team is wrapping up the data collection process in Ngoma district where we have been able to carry out a baseline survey and obtain primary data from smallholder farmers about their maize and soya bean produce.

This project is an IFC initiative that is being implemented by our firm. Through this initiative we provide free quality testing services at Rwandan maize markets AflaKiosk

Prioritizing quantity over quality of maize harvest has increased the severity of the aflatoxin outbreak in Rwanda. We have learnt a great deal piloting mobile testing services for maize through Aflakiosk with our partners @Aflasight IFC Africa and WFP Africa to improve access to qualify maize in Rwandan markets. Edith Heines

Last week, our team was at Nyagatare for three days. We sampled and tested the maize from different farmers and connected them to premium markets at MINIMEX Ltd Kigali , Prodev, and AIF, where they can sell their grain.

This morning , a few visitors from IFC Africa and Global Agriculture & Food Security Program (GAFSP) stopped by our premises and lab where we demonstrated the process of testing aflatoxin in maize and had a great discussion about the work we've done so far with co-operatives in Rwanda.

In just one year @ifc_org & #GAFSP support has enabled @aflakiosk to test 21,000 tons of #maize to reduce aflatoxins & improve grain quality and market access in #Rwanda.
