Great first day of the #ECR section of the 2023 GISRUK conference 🗺️ Who knew Glasgow was so sunny 🌞 or that it has decent segregated bike lanes!

Pleasure to present my current (and future plans for) PhD research at #GISRUK2023 for Geospatial Systems CDT Thanks to all those who gave really interesting comments and questions!

Great first presentation at #GISRUK2023 Chris! Nice to hear the ideas from the GISRUK massive about potential improvements and new datasets. I'm sure you'll be back in future years to share new resuls and methods too. Hope the Active Travel England hook-up comes good too.

It has been great to see how Geospatial Systems CDT teams' creative analysis, methodology and thinking around urban environments translated into insight. And to see how our #opensource tooling #b6 can be utilised.

#ICYMI We asked PhD students at Geospatial Systems CDT to use our #opensource tooling #b6, in their #Challenge Week. Hear how they used #b6 to explore #amenity gaps in #Liverpool for the challenge around the #15-minutecity concept in this guest blog buff.ly/3NESt8I

Moving house in style over this past weekend (all be it quite slowly!) Segregated bike path along Heaton Road making the whole experience far less stressful, particularly when towing dubiously wobbly loads 😶‍🌫️ #utilitycycling #highyineffcientpacking #heaton

That's a wrap, great event brilliantly organised by our Cohort 3 students, Chris, Phil & Rachel. In just 9 days we start with Cohort 5!

There are still a large number of barriers (i.e. on almost every crossing over the A1) that discriminate against anyone with a disability, or riding a cargo bike. All cycle infrastructure should be designed inclusively. My PhD student Chris mapped barriers in his MRes.

I'm really lucky to work with such talented students in our Geospatial Systems CDT and share their knowledge with Geospatial Newcastle undergraduates. Chris has developed this amazing practical for our Stage 3 students using open data and #opensource tools. 1/2 colab.research.google.com/drive/1SE4psIt…

The notebook uses #pythonprogramming and #OpenStreetMap data to identify neighbourhoods and explore the impact of modal filters on the walking, cycling, and car networks in them. Can be run anywhere in the world! Cutting-edge skills for real world problems for our graduates! 2/2

Excited to be at ETH Zürich for the 8th Cycling Research Board Annual Meeting. Looking forward to hearing from world-leading cycle researchers (and giving a talk myself, although world-leading qualities may or may not be present) #CRBAM2024

David Alvarez Geospatial Systems CDT The talk by Chris on his PhD work to develop an open-source approach to mapping LTNs was well-received, with some rich disucssions and suggestions for improvement. Here's an example of his outputs for Zurich if you'd like to explore! froguin99.github.io/Zurich/ 3/n

Had the most wonderful time working on all things cycle networks and superblocks related with the fabulous people at NERDS, ITU. Very excited to share the outputs of our collaboration in the near future!
