Burnet Institute Suman Majumdar Shift to universal N95 in health care. Antimaskers can leave the profession. They are like bus drivers who don't want to follow speed limits. Wrong profession! They won't be missed, masking staff will be off sick less often.
There is a moral dimension too.

Testing patients on admission and ensuring staff wear masks are cost-effective measures to reduce hospital-acquired COVID-19 infections, research from Burnet and the Vic Department of Health, led by Fenella McAndrew, A/Prof Nick Scott and A/Prof Suman Majumdar shows.

Such a comprehensive bite.

Reading the work of a journalist who understands the intricacies of the problem is refreshing albeit a dark subject matter.

Thank you for sharing such important words in such an eloquent manner.

Pathogens found on floors, ceilings & door handles of hospital toilets. Logical explanation? Toilet flushing aerosolises what's in the toilet bowl, and tiny water particles carrying these organisms fly up to the ceiling & contaminate high sites. Applied Microbiology International

Hospitals & healthcare services Australia-wide shamelessly killing people because: idiotic denial of devastating harm caused by C19; cost; HCWs sick of wearing N95. Seriously?! Surely this is industrial manslaughter? Surely criminal charges should be laid? abc.net.au/news/2024-05-0…

This news should be broadcast far and wide. It is unacceptable when simple measures like mandatory mask wearing in all health institutions can substantially reduce these numbers.

Prof Geoff Hanmer What is the point of a health department if it fails to set policies to reduce avoidable severe outcomes and death caused by those hospitals?

Victorian Department of Health dodged Hayley’s question, implying they are comfortable with this.

towards zero. we aim for zero road accident deaths (this TAC campaign from a few years back gets me every time). why don't we think similarly about covid in hospitals and other high-risk settings? youtube.com/watch?v=k2tOye…

these aren't just numbers – this is about people's health, human lives:
at least 6,212 patients caught covid in vic hospitals in 2022/23 and 586 of them died – about one in 10.
a higher % of men died (11%) than women (8%)
the youngest were in their 50s, the oldest 85+

Vic hospitals are knowingly putting patients at risk by removing basic mitigations despite Covid circulating. Hayley Gleeson has exposed the real numbers & the serious mortality risk facing these HAI patients.
We must do much better -top down & bottom up.

Whenever the 'tone police' are deployed to a situation, always remember that it is NEVER actually the tone which is being objected to. It is always the message.
