As a medievalist, I love this. In the Middle Ages women's bodies were seen as empty vessels, textual surfaces, blank canvases on which meaning was imposed often violently, their identity written on their bodies. This is a reversal of that practice. HER own words define her.

The New Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women is now published. And in paperback so almost affordable :) Congratulations to all contributors!

Preparing for our Swansea History MEMO research seminar next week, the final event of the project. The ultimate challenge: summarising our results and reflections into 3 slides each, a difficult but very useful task!

Nice to see decent recognition of the role of women in medieval business on yesterday’s trip to the lovely National Trust Paycocke’s house in Coggeshall. A shift in public history away from invisible role of married women to business partnership and knowledge.

Interested in how historians go about their research to uncover the voices & agency of women? Then you should come to this 👇🏽 Also thrilled to be taking part in this panel that promises insights into the stories of women who were spies, samurai and colonial settlers.

Very exciting start to the morning receiving the cover design for ‘Town Courts and Urban Society’ from Boydell & Brewer. Can’t wait to see the real thing this summer, especially as it features a whole chapter on my favourite medieval Nottingham woman Agnes Halum!
