A timelapse of solar arrays reflecting aurora and city lights as they align themselves for the impending sunrise. The solar array light reflections were so mind blowing that I stayed up till 1AM to shoot a few more sunrises. Luckily we get sunrises every 90 minutes. One of the

I’ve made my aurora chasing e-book completely FREE! Use the code "FREEBOOK" and download it now: theauroraguy.com/products/e-boo…. I worked hard to create a guide that will be the perfect companion to anyone wanting to see the aurora this year.

Nice CME impact last night! Check webcams to see how conditions evolve. Even with positive Bz, the high Bt condition may drive auroras down to mid-latitudes. theauroraguy.com/pages/webcams

A shock wave arrived ~09 UT today (2024/09/04). I attribute this to the big eruption over the southeast limb on Sep 1, which reminds us that a CME-driven shock could cover a wide range of longitude. I may look at this again after Wind science data become available.

I love when the aurora gets little finger structures on the bottom of the arc. Sometimes these are only visible with a very short exposure. I was at a 5 second shutter speed for this shot.

Large CME observed earlier today looks to be the result of an X2 solar flare off the farside of the Sun. Another similar flare took place on Tuesday as well. Full update via SolarHam.com

The far side halo from Sep 3 hit Solar Orbiter yesterday after 12z. It had a total field strength of 60 nT, but remember it’s pretty close to the sun now. It also contained a nice ESW flux rope

I really need to finish that blog post on how to spot fake aurora photos… these are just getting out of hand. Telltale sign here? (Edit) stars are tiny/blurred and the whole image has an airbrushed look. Do you know how to spot the difference between real and AI auroras?

Even with pretty quiet solar wind conditions tonight, the auroras turned the skies green over Fairbanks! Aurora season has kicked off in full force!
