Really important—and profoundly moving—piece about experience with severe mental illness. It’s not talked about enough, and has faced chronic underfunding for many years.

Breathtaking concert by Aurora Orchestra at Printworks London this evening. More than 1,000 people enjoying classical music in a stunning immersive format. Congrats to all involved!

Since 1700, U.K. public debt has averaged around 95 percent of GDP. The latest figure from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows it is currently 95.5 pc and the interest cost of servicing that debt is very low. So let’s not fall for any rhetoric about the urgent need to reduce debt levels.

Desperately sad news about David Amess. Terrible for his family, friends, and for our democracy. Truly awful.

A story from the pandemic I did not know. Since the Grenfell trauma, the NHS has run a service to support all those affected. During the pandemic, the Grenfell Community Kitchen sent food to feed NHS staff. A rather poignant example of reciprocity.

U.K. equities offer superior returns compared to the US and the EU. There is plenty of scope to shift corporate income from profits to wages without raising consumer prices. To suggest otherwise is “economically illiterate”.

Important point. The best way to narrow health inequalities is to lift millions of people out of poverty. Scandalous to be slashing pitiful UC at any time, but never more so when we’re not out of the pandemic yet.

It’s a small step, not a solution, but it’s striking that Police Scotland, unlike the Met, recognise they have an obligation to change what they do rather than tell people to flag down buses.

Political support for Cressida Dick from both the Government and the ‘Opposition’ shows Westminster’s contempt for the public in general and women in particular. It’s obvious that the Met - and probably other forces too - need a new generation of leaders

It would make more sense to introduce statutory collective bargaining by a strong, independent and democratic trade union.

One of the great myths in British politics is that there are electoral gains for an opposition leader ‘taking on’ his or her party…N Kinnock lost in 87 and 92…and Tory leaders under no such pressure..eg Thatcher didn’t ‘take on’ the wets until she had won and Labour was split.
