So so sad to write this. RIP dear Jim. Prof James Scott was a brilliant engaged scholar, surprisingly consistent/persistent in analysis, who married pol science & ethnography in the best way, & who deeply influenced my own thinking/scholarship. Importantly, he was a kind person.

New in Early View💡 Drawing on a radio station archive, Aïssatou Mbodj analyses the songs sang by women about (im)mobile men in 20th century Mali. She argues that these 'non-migrant' songs can help us reimagine processes of migration & gender roles alike. 👇 bit.ly/3zWCL4J

I am thrilled to see this paper published: it is about songs that you can listen to, since Radio Rurale de Kayes' sound collection is now available online thanks to the support of the Modern Endangered Archives Program
