I have just finished another set of incredibly difficult weekend nights as the A&E consultant incharge.

Some thoughts:

The NHS no longer provides unscheduled care - we provide treatment. Care is with dignity - that's impossible for our patients in corridors.

Does the local authority know if a tenant dies from chronic exposure to mould from poor social housing? Is that data even collected? Who is held accountable? If social determinants of health lead to death then we should list them on death certificates. bmj.com/content/383/bm…

Schrödinger’s junior doctor. Simultaneously vital for elective care and at the same time not worth paying properly.

An emphatic 'YES' and a clear message to Govt that Drs at every level will not stand by whilst our pay & conditions are severely eroded. I look forward to standing side by side with Consultants in solidarity. Stand together, strike together, win together. ✊🏾

Today a doctor on the picket line said to me: “MPs have had a 42.7% increase since 2008, Junior Doctors have had a 25% decrease since 2010. So let’s not have MPs saying that pay restoration for doctors is unaffordable. We have families to feed as well.”
A fair point indeed.

BREAKING: Junior doctors in HCSA – the hospital doctors' union have voted to strike. 97% voted yes on a turnout of almost 75%. The HCSA is a smaller union than the The BMA but this could indicate what many have suspected - the vote for strike feels almost inevitable.
