Travel Tip: If you truly want to escape the maddening crowds, find a place in British Columbia that you can only reach by float plane or a private boat. Then sit back, relax, and listen to the quiet. #beautifulbritishcolumbia #explorecanada #beautifuldestinations #hellobc

This incredible cherry tree stands in the Owen Rose Garden. Planted before Oregon became a state, it's thought to be at least 135 years old. #oregonhistory #historicoregon #orculture #oregonheritage #historicORlove #eugenecascadescoast #lovelane #exploreugene #traveloregon

You don’t have to be a sailor to enjoy the magic of gliding across the water on the tall ship Manitou, on Grand Traverse Bay. Read about my experience World Footprints online. Link in bio. #Tallships #TallshipManitou #Manitou#TraverseTallShipCo #traversecitytourism

Touring the town in the Old Town Trolley in Boston. It's a hop-on, hop-off bus, so if you see something amazing (like the Massachusetts State House), then you can hop off and check it out. #bostonmassachusetts #visitboston #bostonusa

When I headed off for a morning walk in Vancouver, B.C., I never expected to find this! Floating in the pond at Central Park are the busy miniature ships of BAMM, the Burnaby Association of Marine Modelers. They were a delightful surprise! @destination_vancouver #veryvancouver

Mac and three cheeses for lunch from the farm cart at Shelburne Farms. This Vermont farm makes its own cheese in the barn behind the cart -- and it's rich, creamy, and marvelous. #vermont #discoververmont #visitvermont #ArtisanCheese #VermontCheese #GourmetCheese

If you want lunch at ShelburneFarms, look for the picnic tables and the food cart in the barn courtyard. Better yet, skip lunch and go straight for the ice cream. You'll find it in the corner of the barn, close to the entrance. If you find chickens, try the other corner.

Paul Revere and the lanterns in the steeple of the Old North Church made history one spring night in 1775. No one knows what happened to the lanterns, but the church is a must-see along the Freedom Trail. Fun fact: That horse he's riding? Her name was Brown Beauty.

Tuna salad wrap makes for an al fresco lunch at the Gardener's Cafe at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park. The cafe was once the cottage for the head gardener in the early 1900s, when Sonnenburg was a private estate.

Dwarfed by newer structures, Paul Revere's house in Boston is open to the public (ticket required). The best part is the museum, which explains Revere's many business ventures. He was much more than a silversmith, working in everything from dentistry to making cannons.

Cheese, glorious cheese! The cheesemakers at Shelburne Farms make it from the contented dairy cows on the farm. Visitors can watch the process in the barn, then sample the results at the Farm Store. #ArtisanCheese #VermontCheese #vermont #discoververmont #visitvermont #visitvt

Turtles! These turtles are relaxed around visitors to Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY. Usually, you have to sneak up on turtles to catch a glimpse of them. If you don't, you'll just hear the telltale "plop!" when they spy you and disappear beneath the water. #zoophotography

Cruising the Erie Canal with Erie Canal Cruises in Herkimer, NY, is a mellow way to learn about New York state's history. The 90-minute narrated trip tells guests about the canal's construction and why it's barely used today. The best part? Passing through Lock 18. Twice.

Traveling through upstate New York, my family and I needed a place to spend the night. The boutique Amsterdam Castle Hotel does indeed look like a castle. It was built, however, as an armory in 1895. This room, filled with antiques and taxidermy, is used for events.
