This is v. good to see. Ben grew up around here (and took an early step in his political career doing an internship with Newmarket Town Council) & has worked hard to make progress. He’s done some very good work in local politics in Wales and this further opportunity is thoroughly deserved.

I hadn’t seen this painting previously. Outstanding. Captured the two brothers perfectly, at a time when each was at the peak of his career. So many great racing memories triggered by this picture.

We barely saw the sun today in Newmarket but it stayed dry; and it did brighten up as the morning went on. #Dereham enjoyed himself, which is the main thing. Hopefully a fair bit of sunshine tomorrow.

This is excellent. Duchess & I bumped into chris richardson on the corner of Severals coming home from Limekilns on morning of 2,000 Guineas. Duchess had her 1st race since that day 2day & won. And Chris was straight on to it. Well done, Chris: v. much up to date with the form book.

A very happy trip to Great Yarmouth Races with #Duchess breaking her duck on her first run of 2024. A lovely mare, very well ridden by Adam Farragher. Delighted that she has rewarded the patience & support of owners The Quieter Than A Mouse Syndicate.

These pictures don’t really do justice to how wet it was this morning Newmarket Gallops, although we do see how pleased the dogs were to come back indoors. Rained uninterruptedly for about 18 hours, up until noon. Still, it’s warm & there’s no wind, so it’s not too bad.

A special trip to Brighton Racecourse for #MrsMaisel , the last foal of Roy Rocket’s dam Minnie’s Mystery, to make debut, aged 5. John Egan in saddle, of course. She arrived in stable as yearling in 2020 so it’s taken a while, but she acquitted herself well on this belated debut.

No Northern Lights this week but the evening sky was pretty impressive even so. (Not that the cat looks particularly impressed). ‘Shepherd’s delight’, supposedly, and yet the forecast is for rain to arrive tomorrow evening.
