Art Loss Register recovered Eramus Quelliness II’s «Double portrait of Sir Peter Rubens and Sir Anthony Van Dyck» after more than 40 years. The work was stolen while on loan for an exhibition 1979. The painting is now back and on display at Chatsworth

«Child with Crayfish» Inspired by Caravaggio Soars at #Auction

Inspired by a painting by #Caravaggio in his youth, this work sold for €96,600, reaching well beyond its €20,000/30,000 estimate, with Nouvelle Etude. It is thought to have been painted by a French artist c.1640.

Happy Birthday John Sell Cotman (1782-1842), leading member of the Norwich School, who was born on this day!

In 1798, he moved to London where he met fellow artists J. M. W. Turner, Peter de Wint and Thomas Girtin among others.
