Musée de Pont-Aven preempted the Emile Bernard‘s Self-Portrait (1897) with the participation of the Friends of the Museum and the Ministère de la Culture 🇫🇷

Artist, poet and author- Bernard arrived in Pont-Aven in 1886. This work dates to his time spent in #Spain .

Did you know that artist Theodore Rousseau campaigned to protect the forest of #Fontainebleau ?

Happy birthday to Robert Delaunay who was born on this day in 1885 in Paris! Delaunay married artist Sonia Terk in 1910.

The powerhouse couple were ever present on the avant-garde scene. In 1912 created Orphism (named by Apollinaire) a type of cubism.

We picked the enchanting “Les Licornes” 1885 by Gustave Moreau for the magical, #unicorn inspired Art UK #OnlineArtExchange !

Throughout his life Moreau was fascinated by the Middle Ages, featuring medieval inspired unicorns & knights in his work.

An imposing banquet hall has been uncovered in Pompeii.

Its black walls decorated with mythological subjects from the Trojan War. Dominant themes are heroism and fate.

Céline's “Le manuscrit de Mort à crédit”

The French National Library Bibliothèque BnF acquired the manuscript by dation (payment for inheritance tax). It is the earliest known version of the text - a mature work by Céline- and the only one available to researchers in France.

Stolen in 1959 from Saint-Martin-aux-Bois this 14th-century Virgin and Child statue, classified a historic monument, was spotted on the Paris art market in spring 2020. It is once again home in the abbey church.
