The Netherlands has effectively banned market-rate rentals, so now landlords are selling to owner-occupiers, and people who can't afford a mortgage now can't find a home at all. Good job. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Political comms has utterly ruined what was left of substance in our politics. Canned answers and message repetition peppered with anecdata. Everyone does it and it's vapid and contributes to dumbing down an already low-quality political discourse.

Doug Ford… CAN’T/WONT ❌ Get housing built ❌ Get infrastructure built ❌ Get healthcare capacity built ❌ Run an education system that isn’t a Ponzi scheme CAN/WILL ✅ Spend $1B to get beer in corner stores 1yr early ✅ Butter buns of corrupt mooches he calls “buddys”

This should worry us. Canada's economy is lagging and structurally unsound, and tent encampments, food bank use and the like make it clear that those at the bottom are suffering most from Canada's sclerotic economy.

The popularity of the welfare state in Nordic countries stems in large part from the fact that people think they are getting a good deal from public services. If they didn't, their attitude to taxation would be quite different. Efficiency and quality in public services matter.

Anyone who's regularly consumed Canadian far-right/left media since 2014 has to ask themselves if their political views are truly independent or if they've been exploited + hijacked by the Kremlin and these Canadian con-men. My comments for The Globe and Mail theglobeandmail.com/gift/a2e82d8de…

Is anyone really surprised that the right wing grift network is Russian State funded? The only shock is how cheap it is to buy treason. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

Not a great employment report. - Jobs created below growth in workforce, unemployment up - A decline in full time employment offset by increase in part time - Youth unemployment hasn’t been this high since GFC (outside of Covid)

This is amusing. Conservatives have often accused Trevor Tombe of being a biased Liberal and now they quote his work (excellent, by the way) because they see it as supporting their narrative. The message here is that many economists just produce good work, no politics involved.

It is basically unfathomable to build like this in North America. This entire project is being done for under $40B CAD, or under $150M/km. To compare, we recently estimated an above ground pedestrian/bike path in Toronto at $75M/km ☠️

I’m a conservative through and through, BUT the instinct of many on this side of the political spectrum on housing policy is completely wrong Single egress permissions in BC may be the best housing policy in Canada this year. And other provinces should quickly follow suit
