It's almost like there's barely anything between them and the epic, Gotterdammerung struggle between the forces of progress and reaction is a hallucination for centrists.

You should get print subscription - not least because this will give you access to the latest edition which features me writing about the Reformation.

It also looks beautiful: jacobin.com/issue/religion

They've lost the 'debate'. That's what all this announces.

So now the words (mostly flat lies and ludicrous denunciations) have given way to the billy club, the boot and the prison bars.

It's that simple.

Mass arrests and detention, complimented by pro-Israel, pro-US foreign policy street thugs attacking peaceful demonstrators.

Media and campus censorship, and demonisation of 'foreign agents' by leading politicians.

We are witnessing a state crackdown on dissent in the US.

Reminder: Swinney and Forbes agree on practically everything.

Both have served as finance minister - we already live in their Scotland.

I'll be on Novara Media discussing the SNP leadership election from 6pm - and why Swinney, Forbes and the Greens all agree on a great deal more than they care to admit.

See if there's an organised left wing of the Greens - what was it doing during the Bute House Agreement?

Why was there no organised backlash against, say, ScotWind, or the 2022 Spending Review (and dozens of other things)?

Is there a name for the psychological condition where people who supported Kate Forbes' most regressive policies in office, and helped her become one of the most prominent figures in Scottish politics, are also the angriest at her?

If you supported the BHA, she's yours. Sorry.

Devolution was, of course, New Labourism at its zenith - post-politics, end of history, transnationalism and NGOisation.

So it isn't surprising that it is suffering with that wider legacy, or that the liberal left are determined to defend it in the face of all evidence.

The re-purposing of old munitions reminds me of some of the acute observations in 'The Shock of the Old' by David Edgerton

It shows (among other things) how the fight for competitive edge throws us back on old technologies. Useful reading for the present period.

Conter co-editor David Jamieson on Good Morning Scotland, arguing the SNP approach to independence is exhausted and hollowed out. Fundamental problems must be addressed - and no amount of political opportunism can paper over the cracks.

The Scottish Greens, who wax lyrical about the 'independence majority' as a rationale for the Bute House Agreement, have stated their willingness to form a future government with Scottish Labour.

Opportunism dominates Holyrood. Analysis in The National

This is a really skewed perspective imo.

2014/15/16 can be seen as demarking the end of a long period of depoliticisation in the late 80s, 90s and 2010s.

That doesn't mean we are heading to a given destination. The whole 'independence journey' thing was misconceived.

Kate Forbes might be your answer if the question is: 'How do we flush the Sturgeonite apparatus out the SNP and make everything hunky dory'.

It's the ludicrous answer you get from a ludicrously truncated question.
