By the Autumn of 1612 Henry Chaytor of Butterby (on the outskirts of Durham) was fed up with rain. The top of this page of his diary just says “Wett Wett Wett”. By the end of the page, his boat has been washed away to below Shincliffe Bridge, although he was able to get it back.
