Encountered this lovely pair of Oriental pied hornbills inspecting a potential new nesting hole. The female takes her time to check it out, once nesting begins she will seal herself in the tree hole for up to 90 days! And will depend on the me to feed her and the chicks!

Three generations of stories from Kampung Nee Soon with writers from the National Heritage Board. It's so wonderful to hear different perspectives and experiences from the same space across time. 💕 ⌚ We are so lucky to all be sitting here together. Thank you budak

Heartbroken by the news of Frans de Waal's untimely passing. One of my favourite authors, de Waal's rigorous and compelling science challenged our perception of human and animal intelligence. Encouraging humility and compassion in towards each other. improbable.com/2024/03/16/sad…

Had a great time at Eton House today sharing about #marvellousmammals that live all around us! Here we demonstrate what powered flight could feel like for a bat - the sweating, the heat, the effort! 🦇

A lovely story about the work of my friend and fellow NUS CNCS colleague Fung Tze Kwan ! Join her for a walk in Singapore forests as she unravels the language of Nature to learn how birds are shaping our forests through fruit and seed dispersal! str.sg/viz-seeds Audrey Tan 🐋

Mangrove planting world records might look good on paper, but often do not work. Fantastic article from James Kairo, Chief Scientist of KMFRI nation.africa/kenya/health/n… Let’s have a world record for % survived, not number planted!

Singapore is home to a #snail found no where else in the world. YES! Green tree snails are #endemic to the tropical #rainforests of #Singapore. They are threatened by pests and habitat loss. I've read about them but haven't seen one until tonight! How exhilarating!

When we stooped down to peer at the tiny Big-eyed litter frog, we looked under the canopy and found this stick insect Necroscia punctata! What a beauty!

The best part about lab work is that it ends and you get to go outside in the sun and ride on a buggy with your samples in a foam box. It was so great to have Dr Desmond Chua with me in the BSL2 lab sharing his experience of having worked with COVID, Dengue, Zika.

That's about as much Mandarin as I could muster. Thank you Nüyou Singapore for the opportunity to talk about our oceans, and to the team for getting me camera ready! Most of all, thanks for Faye for all the translation work!! instagram.com/reel/C_M6vpTuJ…

It's one thing to know about it, but quite something else to witness it! Look at how the mangrove trees tamper the storm waves!

Wonderful news and an important gesture of humanitarianism toward our closest living relatives, who have contributed (not voluntarily) to the understanding and advancement of science and human health. science.org/content/articl… #bioethics

A few weeks ago, I met with Girl Scouts on their trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium. We talked about the magical world just beneath the surface of our oceans, and how our fates are inextricably linked. I hope you’ll check out Our Oceans from Higher Ground, which is streaming now on @Netflix.
