I really enjoyed taking part in this last year and have signed up again for 2022 🥳 I'm a Scientist Team is a fantastic way to engage with school students in a flexible and online format - go sign up!
Just did my first chat session for I'm a Scientist Team, some amazing questions from the year 7s e.g. what's the hardest part about being a scientist, how are vaccines made and how do you tell the difference between COVID19 variants? A pleasure talking to such engaged students!
Some more great qs from students in today's I'm a Scientist Team chat! E.g why are so many diseases spread by mosquitoes? How is computer science used to study diseases? Does dengue affect the mosquitoes it infects? Why do some people have no symptoms with COVID19? #STEMeducation 🦟🦠💻
Now is a great time to get more involved in STEM outreach as #BritishScienceWeek starts soon (11-20th March)!🌍🇬🇧🌿Sign up to be a STEM ambassador (stem.org.uk/stem-ambassado…) 🥽💻🗣️and follow these accounts for more info STEM Ambassadors @STEMLondonHub British Science Week British Science Association
It's been so much fun volunteering Science Museum talking with visitors about climate change/arboviruses using the incredible 'Science on a Sphere' Science On a Sphere® 🌍 If you're there next Thurs come say hi. Vol links 👇 #scicomm sciencemuseum.org.uk/about-us/volun… stem.org.uk/stem-ambassado…
Applications are open for judges for The Big Bang 2023! Judging is fun and easy (what a great combo) ... you assess young scientists' projects online and give written feedback. Last year I got to judge some incredible #STEM projects. Go apply! thebigbang.org.uk/volunteering/
We loved talking to students about phylogenetics and infectious disease outbreaks at last night's fair! Thanks The Genetics Society Royal Institution for hosting, and CADDE Project for letting us showcase the minION, it was very exciting! Another great day at Great Exhibition Road Festival on the #FestivalFever stand with MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis. My highlight was being asking about mosquitoes and climate change! Last couple of hours left, go say hi and ask all your infectious disease questions ...
A great morning at #Epidemics9 with some really interesting talks, including by Giovanni Marini on WNV in avian populations 🐦⬛🦟📈
