A status update as some have inquired recently: the data for 2023 tornadoes is currently being processed and QC’d for addition to the website. Environmental data is also being added for these dates. We appreciate your patience as we update with the approach of spring 2024!

As an add-on from yesterday, a bug in the database development pipeline caused more detailed tracks from pre-1950 tornadoes (e.g. for Grazulis' F5 events) to be overwritten in the web version over the last several months. This will be corrected in the upcoming update.

50 years ago today, the Super Outbreak of 1974 occurred. A very large and powerful storm system spurred 148 tornadoes across 13 states and one Canadian province, 7 of them rated F5 and 23 of them rated F4. At least 310 people were killed and over 5000 were injured.
