Our team at The Unstuck Group has been involved with hundreds of multisite campus launches, and we’ve learned that there are many ways to do multisite church—and many ways not to do multisite.

I’m confident that churches don’t try to sabotage their ministries on purpose. However, any person looking from the outside in would likely say, “That’s not going to end well.”

Let me give you some examples of the crazy things I’ve seen churches do:

'If debating non-essentials begins to negatively affect your mission of reaching people for Jesus and making disciples, that’s a good barometer of whether or not you’re doing it right.'

For the final episode of our series on 'How to Talk About the Tough Stuff,' I'm joined by Dave Dummitt, Lead Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, to discuss how churches can navigate disagreements around 'non-essentials' of our faith.

If you aren’t seeing a bump in attendance and engagement each time you begin a new weekend series, here are four questions for you and your church staff team to wrestle with:

'God cares more about discipling the people in your church and reaching your community than you do. So when you're trying to prepare a message and get it just right, you might feel alone, but you are not—God is right there helping you.'

Many churches use sermon series to hone their message and encourage people to invite their friends, not just for one week, but perhaps for four or six.

I've noticed that some churches implement sermon series more effectively than others.

I recently got to sit down with Dave Dummitt, lead pastor of Willow Creek.

The circumstances under which Dave came to be in this role were controversial in themselves, so I think he has great wisdom to share around how to navigate tough topics.

'Discussing the non-essentials ought to help you make disciples, not hinder you from making disciples.'

Would you consider taking a short survey to help other ministry leaders?

Your contribution will help fuel our upcoming staffing-focused Unstuck Church Report and allow us to provide more detailed insights from churches of every size.

'It's so easy for misalignment to occur when you're using a multisite strategy. Unstuck brought us together and helped us move in the same direction.'

Champion Forest shares how the Unstuck Process helped their church find greater alignment and clarity:

More activities on the schedule results in less focus on weekend services. Ask yourself: What is our primary way of reaching people who don’t attend church?

If the answer is your weekend service, focus on making that as effective as possible by doing less of something else.

Some churches implement sermon series more effectively than others. And some series engage the unchurched better than others.

In my experience, you can learn how to do things right from the churches who are doing it wrong...
