do love this big fat mad book. pound’s cantos are one of the weird wonders of 20th century poetry — a complex, controversial, disturbing and disorienting work of magic, metamorphosis and mayhem.

The Minoan frescoes from Akrotiri in Thira, Greece, are breathtaking examples of ancient art, remarkably preserved since around 1600 BC. These vibrant murals reflect the Minoan civilization’s sophisticated artistic talent and rich cultural life. 1/2

In FatherBrown 3:5, in which ⁦Nancy Carroll⁩ scores the winning cricket run, I noticed a wonderful anachronism: a paperback copy of 1982’s Rattle Bag, edited by Heaney and Hughes, on the shelf behind the Father himself! ⁦John Burton

After spending over a decade in England, in 1971 Arthur Boyd returned to Australia, settling at Bundanon on the Shoalhaven River in New South Wales where he continued to paint landscapes. This work, featuring a bi-plane flying over the river at twilight, was made in 1976.

Martinus van Regteren Alteat's portraits are not like looking at a painting; they are like meeting the sitter. This work from 1902 is a profound, complex, compelling intense and deeply affecting work of a farmer from North Holland.
