Thirty-six New Zealanders are permanently banned from entering the Russian Federation, because of their anti-Russo propaganda. The list will be added to, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. 11 are journalists. Six from Radio New Zealand, including political editor

I'm also calling it. Maybe Russia gets Niu York, Chasiv Yar or Toretsk after huge casualties. But they just had a six month window for big gains when Ukraine had no US aid and a manpower/morale crisis. They made pitiful progress.

Thoughts following a recent field study in Ukraine. Ukraine faces difficult months of fighting ahead, but the situation at the front is better than it was this spring. More worrisome is the state of Ukraine’s air defense, and the damage from Russian strikes to the power grid. 1/

I spent a week for The Times and The Sunday Times with Ukraine’s elite 47th Mechanised Brigade, equipped with M1 Abrams, M2 Bradleys and Paladin artillery. They told me they’re in “deep shit” in the Pokrovsk sector, where the Russians have advanced 6km towards the Donbas town in just over a week.

Our video with Ukrainian infantrymen on the zero line near Toretsk is out. What infantry is really all about comes out much better when you see the faces and hear the voices of these people. The result of the war will be decided in places like this. youtube.com/watch?v=00vhpE…

My lifetime ban from the territory of Russia lasted less than two months. That's around the same amount of time Kherson was 'with Russia forever.'
