Oh my god. We knew this was coming, but it still hurts. Mark was among the first paleo grad students I met (he was wrapping up his grad work when I was just starting, and his was the first Ph.D. defense I ever saw.) A great scientist and wonderful person. He will be missed.

rest in peace, no combination of words that could fit in the word count of a single tweet could ever hope to properly convey how influential he was on the field and how influential he was to the people around him and that looked up to him πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ•ŠοΈπŸ•ŠοΈ

Scrolling TikTok today there is obviously a lot of commentary on the Charlie Kirk situation and aftermath and I'm sorry but I just cannot take peoples political commentary seriously when they say "unalived"

I don't know how controversial of a point this is, I don't read conic books, but even with the knowledge that the artists are under immense time pressure I don't think tracing over random google image results should be considered acceptable or even ethical.

so much discourse is caused by the fact that people dont read. not comics, not books, not articles, not papers, not literary fiction, not non fiction, not academic works, nothing.

The bit I love from watching talks by Dave Hone or Tom Holtz about tyrannosaurs is that they talk about T. rex with the same passion as a younger NBA player talking about Michael Jordan.

A lot of cheering for Geelong’s demise because of rorts, which I get, but not a lot of realising Brisbane are pretty much an exact replica. They are going to overlord the league for many years

Jane Goodall’s contributions to primatology and science communication as a whole can’t be understated. Truly pushed the mark
