Funny moment from our severe weather coverage last night. As I’m looking at the camera, I can also see out the window to our weather deck. It was bright and loud. ⚡️🌩️⛈️

Look at Downtown Milwaukee this afternoon. Surface-based wildfire smoke is leading to poor air quality. One of the worst air qualities in the world right now. Expect low air quality through noon on Thursday.

9:20pm Wednesday: I fired up a portable air quality monitor. Elevated PM2.5 levels on the weather deck (46) vs much lower levels indoors (13). This shows that we still have wildfire smoke in our air tonight and why the Air Quality Alert continues until Noon on Thursday.

Here is tonight's science lesson. Why is the smoke so thick along the lakeshore and over the lake? Answer: The Marine Layer. The Marine Layer is the cooler layer of air just above the lake (caused by the cool lake water) that is trapping the Canadian wildfire smoke. When the wind

3:25pm Sunday: A few lingering rain showers in Milwaukee county this afternoon with t-storms in Racine and Kenosha Co. Everything is moving east and will be out over the lake shortly. A stray rain shower is possible this evening, otherwise dry with temperatures in the 60s.

4:03pm Sunday: Storms are pushing east from Racine and Kenosha, developing into a decent line over the lake. Can't rule out a stray rain shower tonight, but the bulk of the rain is done. It could get a bit smoky tonight in behind this cold front as well.
