Today we joined NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory for a collaborative damage survey of the EF-1 tornado in Vivian, LA. Their research team is utilizing a drone and fixed-wing aircraft to study damage patterns and help us better understand the violent winds of tornadoes.

Thanks to a collaborative survey with NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory we discovered that the track was longer with the Vivian tornado on February 28th. Unmanned aerial surveys from a drone and a fixed-wing aircraft were helpful to extend the damage path length to 1.5 miles.

Inaugural NOTAMS for the QLCS Tornadoes CopterSonde mission are up! It has taken almost a full year of regulatory hurdles and finding/training personnel to get this organized, but it is finally happening! Now we're off to show each team their site

First QLCS Tornadoes CopterSonde flight started promptly at 5am!

While Tony Segalés is winning the max altitude game, Elizabeth Smith and I are winning the number of flights within an hour of a tornado warning over us

Weather-sensing #UAS (wxUAS) can bring detailed insight into processes that occur in the lowest part of the atmosphere. By flying multiple wxUAS simultaneously, scientists can study how the atmosphere is changing spatially as severe weather approaches. Tyler Bell #AMS2023

BLISS group members Tyler Bell Josh Gebauer and Elizabeth Smith are out in the field today deploying one of the CLAMPS research facilities! NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory

Some of our UAS weather scientists visited the brilliant Aviation II classes at Oklahoma Aviation Academy. We're looking forward to what these future UAS leaders might bring to weather research. Next time, come fly with us, Norman Public Schools! Tyler Bell Tony Segalés
