Feels like more than a year since I wrote this blog post for NotSoFastCampaign notsofastcampaign.org/2020/03/25/a-fβ¦

Rounding out a big week, checking off her MRes Milestone 2 presentation and topping it off with the submission of her first paper. Well played Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ

My very first Journal Article! #AttentionControl moderates the relationship between #SocialMedia Use and #PsychologicalDistress. Patrick Clarke Joel Howell #SocialMediaResearch #CyberPsychology Open access til Dec 23: authors.elsevier.com/a/1e0ZgbXYijbDh

Thrilled to share the very first paper from my incredibly talented Masters (soon PhD) student Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ (also feat Joel Howell). This examined the potential role of attention control in social media use and psychological distress bit.ly/3q7Owhv 1/4

Do you have a short attention span? New Curtin University research finds it could be strongly linked to #socialmedia distress. Find out more here: bit.ly/3qkU48w #CurtinResearch Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ Patrick Clarke

Lots of chatting about my research on Thursday: Will be on @RTRFM in the morning around 9:10 discussing my recent paper. Then presenting a lightning talk about my current social media research in the evening at this QueersInScience event for #LGBTSTEMDay!

Excellent PhD proposal presentation from Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ, well received and lots of interest. Important and interesting space combining social media, emotion, cognition and minority stress

Watch this short video from Lauren Breen about her #ActiveIngredientsMH project, which seeks to understand the impact that grief reduction interventions can have on reducing anxiety and depression in young people aged 14-24 years: youtu.be/GxupXWl9ciA

I've done it again! - My second article looking at causal relationships between social media use with sleep/ anxiety with Patrick Clarke & Joel Howell is In Press and available online now! sciencedirect.com/science/articlβ¦

My new article with Patrick Clarke Joel Howell "Assessing the Effects of Acute Reductions in Mobile Device Social Media Use on Anxiety and Sleep" is open access until November 20 authors.elsevier.com/a/1frS01KHtad0u

I'm on a roll: New article with Patrick Clarke and Prof Pete McEvoy is open access til Jan 10. authors.elsevier.com/a/1g7TE2f~UWIt⦠Can you guess how much #socialmedia you use? most people can't! Our findings suggest frequently used self-report social media use measures don't reflect actual use.

How good are you at estimating your social media use? Our recent paper (Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ Prof Pete McEvoy) suggests probably pretty bad, and this carries some serious implications for social media research that has relied heavily on self-report use in the past π§΅π

What is the connection between attention span, #socialmedia & mental #wellbeing? Tune into our latest episode of #TheFutureOf podcast with Curtin's Patrick Clarke & Tamsin Mahalingham π³οΈβπ to learn how our cognitive processes are changing in response to technology: curtin.edu/9v2yjt
