OTD: Sept. 12, 1897 — Catholic Bishop Joseph Rademacher officiated at a cornerstone ceremony for St. Ann’s Church going up at Second and Green streets.

OTD: Sept. 15, 1882 — Lafayette’s first public library opened in the former home at Sixth and Columbia streets with Mrs. B.J. Hyde the librarian.

OTD: On November 1, 1826, Tippecanoe County’s first marriage license was issued to William Tenary and Rebecca Franklin. Justice of the Peace Levi Thornton married them on November 2nd. This original license (along with all the other county licenses) is kept at TCHA!
