This is a nice thread. However, it is heartbreaking to me that we need to share stories of immigrants being good and kind. As if it is not already a given that immigrants can be, and are, simply, human.

Nope. I have never worn a skirt to an interview (or ever) and I think I turned out okay. thelawyersdaily.ca/articles/7081/…

Excited to share that the Minister of Justice and AG Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould (JWR), PC, OBC, KC 王州迪 has invited the co-founders of GROWL, along with leaders of other equity-seeking groups, to discuss diversity on the federal bench next week with the Minister and a panel of ONCA and SCJ justices. Wow!

A well-written piece on race, racism & privilege: “But the deception of niceness adds a confusing layer that makes it difficult for people of color to decipher trustworthy allyship from disingenuous white liberalism.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Very grateful for the award, but really, I should be sharing it with my pals, @emlaminator and Lindsay Scott, who are the inspiration behind GROWL and are the true MVPs of change!

It is interesting that some folks consider pro bono and legal aid work in individual cases to be inherently good (and thus uncontroversial), but see attempts to effect systemic change as “ideology”. Makes you wonder what they are trying to protect. nationalpost.com/opinion/christ…

Sigh. I am often mistaken for a student no matter what I am wearing. Let’s talk about the assumptions that people draw and why, not put the onus on women like me to avoid having them draw those assumptions, ok? precedentjd.com/style/do-lawye…

Just watched the “Fried Rice” episode of Ugly Delicious. Not only did it make me hungry, watching David Chang, Alan Yang and Serena Dai talk about race and food around the dinner table was 🔥. A reminder that representation matters.

Last night, I met up with a Group of Racialized Ontario Women Litigators(GROWL)! Tina Lie led a great discussion about my and Janani Shanmuganathan’s recent articles on our experiences as racialized female litigators. GROWL is going to change the bar. Thanks @PaliareRoland for hosting.
