It was on the 8th of Ramadan 853 (1449) that the Timurid Emperor, Ulugh Beg Güregen was executed whilst on his way to perform the Hajj. Ulugh Beg, after losing to his son Abdul Latif Mirza in a succession struggle, stepped down as Timurid sovereign to undertake the Hajj.
