Nice comeback win for UCF tonight with some fantastic 5 inning shutout relief pitching from Castellano, but tomorrow determines who wins the series. Bearcats need to win every series at this point in the season.

I had not seen this commitment of Quincy Mazeke to UC mentioned until now.

Nice night for Taylor. And I thought the strike zone tonight was tighter than a g-string on a Sumo wrestler (to borrow a line from Northern Exposure).

Nathan Taylor has had some occasional issues on the road this season, but the freshman has been terrific through 6 innings tonight. I’m thinking his night might be over, but we’ll see.

Mitch made a bitch of a play to turn B3 in UC’s favor. Mitchelle seems to be coming into his own lately. We’re seeing why Coach Bischel was so high on him prior to the season. Taylor giving the Bearcats what they need on the mound so far.

Hard to complain when you take a 2 run lead, but I think UCF is probably happier walking off the field than UC is walking onto it. A consolation prize is UCF’s starter has thrown 72 pitches after 3 innings.

I think this is the first time we’ve seen this line-up all season.

When was the last time a Big 12 school didn’t make the College World Series? I believe it was 15 years ago (2008).

I’m not the only one that thinks the Diamond Bearcats still have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament.

After making the NCAA tourney 12 out of 13 years (including 5 CWS), Louisville is in danger of missing the tourney 4 of the last 5 last seasons since Covid. Cards led #5 Clemson 11-4 after 4 innings last night but lost 12-11. Louisville is #81 in the RPI.

After last night’s 9-4 victory over UCF, the Bearcats jumped from #84 to #72 in the RPI. UCF dropped from #24 to #29. Going into today’s action, UC (24-18, 10-9) is tied with Kansas for 6th place in Big 12.

That play by Marsh on the lead off bunt was as athletic a play as you’ll see from any pitcher at any level.

One thing I keep noticing in Big 12 baseball play is almost every league team seems to be capitalizing on getting transfer starting pitchers that are older and more experienced for their weekend rotation.

Ted Tom, former UC assistant under Ty Neal, is an assistant @ UCF. Tom was hired at UCF when Greg Lovelady (former Wright State HC) was named UCF HC. Sunday’s UCF starter should be Cade Boxrucker (Campbell transfer) but played at Badin HS with Josh Hegemann and Landyn Vidourek.

The Bengals’ draft room started congratulating each other after their 1st round pick, but no one seemed to interact with Mike Brown or Katie Blackburn. Katie stood up looking for someone to congratulate, but no one seemed to reciprocate.
