"Mis-thinking" phenomenon # 3 when we form out political beliefs intuitively, or via the utilization of "common sense," instead of as open-mindedly searching, assimilating, and contemplating the best evidence and arguments we can find on each side of an issue.

Argumentation is basically backward thinking. It's starting with a belief, and then gathering evidence to support it. It's useful for convincing a jury, or even convincing someone on X -- but it's insufficient, if maximizing the odds of arriving at objective truth is the goal.

Once our worldview is formed, and once we have a set of beliefs that all fit well together and support each other, it is extremely difficult to see the world from any other perspective.

Subconsciously, we attempt to form beliefs that fit well with what we already believe. We ALL experience myside bias.

Your ideology is the lens through which you see the world, politically, economically, socially .... It influences all new beliefs you form. But did you carefully reason your way to it? Or did you simply choose it, and then spend a lifetime creating arguments in support?
