Have heard some people wondering if the 49ers could be a Terry McLaurin destination because they have a ton of cap room. My answer: Uhh, they had a ton of cap room last spring before they let 7 starters go. The whole point was to get out of long-term investments to older players.

It's not inaccurate, but they're not likely adding a 30-year-old $35M-a-year (or whatever the new deal turns out to be) WR to fix that.

No way Washington would do that. And since McLaurin would need a new deal, the 49ers would end up paying huge bonuses to McLaurin AND Aiyuk because the bonus money doesn't transfer in a trade. (Aiyuk's cap hit this year is only $9.9M. These are NOT NBA deals on the cap.)

These contracts are about guaranteed money. I keep saying it's cash, not cap. It's complicated. But McLaurin is a much more valuable asset once he's signed because WSH would be paying the bonus. But of course why would WSH trade him after paying the bonus?

IF the 49ers felt they were a WR away from another Super Bowl run, they'd always be looking for a big move. But that was a few years ago, not now. This is a clear-the-books-and-make-do-with-the-stars-they-kept season. It's not an add-on time. Shopping wholesale, not retail.

Parsons is absolutely the level of player any team should bust up all payroll plans to acquire if possible. And yup, zero chance Dallas is trading him to the 49ers. Likely not trading him at all. Ridiculous on them that it's gotten this far.

OK, I thought you were referring to the "putting his suit on" for the press conference anecdote that wasn't correct, because SFGs told Correa and his agent very early that morning the deal was off. But yes, it was all very abrupt for everybody. Another reason why it took guts.

Main error was that Zaidi could've made the decision faster and announced it the night before the scheduled presser. Obviously tons of $ on the line. I get why it took a little longer, but if he'd done it faster a lot of the "wait no presser today?" jolt would've lessened.

No days off for Mary Kay, who became the 2nd woman in 57 yrs to accept the Bill Nunn Jr award at last nights Gold Jacket Dinner in Canton. That number of women is going to rise exponentially in future years. And Mary Kay Cabot’s trailblazing will be part of the reason why.

The Valkyries will now play today’s game without Tiffany Hayes, who’s dealing with a left leg injury. Cecilia Zandalasini remains out (left foot), as does Mo Billings (right ankle) and Kayla Thornton (right knee).
