This is the big fear. In our statement, we said that the new money must be accompanied with (among other things!) "existing local authority deficits [being] written off so that this is genuinely new money" disabledchildrenspartnership.org.uk/autumn-2024-bu… otherwise children & families will feel no impact.

A look at local newspapers shows why ‘overspend’ is such a big word in today’s new ADASS report. Financial pressures on councils are huge and that in turn affects how money is being spent, with money focused on meeting immediate needs rather than prevention. Thread ⬇️

If I had £1 for every time the Mail Online published an unfounded "causes" story, I could've already retired. It's the most-viewed English language news site in the world. Think of the good it could do with that platform instead!

There are now more than 200,000 people waiting for autism assessments in England – that’s more than the population of Reading. This should be a huge wake-up call to the Government to urgently fix this broken system, which lets down autistic people and their families:

Compare this with data also out today that the autism diagnosis waiting list has doubled in two years and is still increasing. How much of the £22b extra will go to tackle this crisis?
