Tilton has joined the Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week campaign to raise awareness of the new rules for carbon monoxide alarms in homes, and to help people stay safe from carbon monoxide poisoning this winter. #COAW #COAWARENESS2022

From the 1st October 2022 it is required that carbon monoxide alarms are installed in all rented accommodation by landlords and new build properties where there is a fixed combustion appliance, excluding gas cookers. #coaw #coaw22

Carbon monoxide starves the body of oxygen. Making individuals feel unwell, and therefore is potentially mistaken as a cold or flu. The longer the exposure to carbon monoxide, the worse the symptoms become. High levels of carbon monoxide exposure can be fatal. #COAW #coaweek22

It’s critical that appliances in your home do not leak carbon monoxide. These appliances, such as boilers, gas fires, chimneys and flues should be serviced by a registered engineer and an alarm should be fitted in the same room as the appliance. #coaw #coaweek2022

Please test your CO detectors every month and replace them according to the manufacturer's instruction. Also make sure they are correctly installed. #COAW #coaw22

Ventilation is essential for gas appliances to burn properly. Make sure that no air vents are blocked in your home. Look out for signs that your gas appliance may not be working correctly such as floppy yellow flames, extra condensation and black marks around the appliance. #COAW
