The first RNIB Talking Books went out to readers on the 7th of November 1935. Books like Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd were shipped in sturdy containers for free and returned at a special reduced postal rate! #LibrariesWeek #LibrariesWeek2022
It's my favourite time of year again... happy #WorldBrailleDay! Here's a little piece I wrote for SRSB and RSS to celebrate a bit of tactile reading history: srsb.org.uk/Feeds.aspx?Key…
Thank you to Jane and the team at SRSB and RSS for lending your time and your books so generously. They even let me loose on a Brailler!
What an amazing event this has been! Big thanks to the UK Disability History and Heritage Hub organisers for bringing so much disability history work together
A fascinating paper on the influence of social movements on the monarchy in late 19th-century England, right at the time when they changed the name of the dynasty to Windsor. Well done Lucy Haigh! Maybe you can write a spinoff for The Crown 😉 SocialHistorySociety #SHS2024
A Braille birthday party? I'm there. Catch me at the Braille 200 celebration in Harrogate library on Monday 21st, 10-3. I'll be giving a talk on the history of tactile alphabets in Britain, and Alan Thorpe is bringing his collection of braillers! RNIB North Yorkshire Libraries #Braille200
