Today is Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Day! DLD is one of the most common developmental disorders that affects approximately 1 in 14 children in kindergarten. To learn more, read #NIDCDinfo: bit.ly/3CY7mhf #DevLangDis #DLDDay

Supporting people with DLD begins with making sure they know they have DLD. Not sure how to start that conversation? Try the SPICES framework. 💜#DLDday #devlangdis doi.org/10.1044/2022_A…

Need to keep building my purple and yellow wardrobe! This talk was so much fun. Can't wait to share it with the #SLPeeps and #DevLangDis communities when it drops!

How can I support my child with #DevLangDis? Get their attention, use simple language, keep instructions short, slow down, help them see it, check they've understood, let them choose, stop and listen, and enjoy time together. moorhouseschool.co.uk/_site/data/fil… RADLDcampaign DLDandMe for info

Twitter has been a boon to the international SLP community and it will be a tragic loss for us if it falls. If you tweet about #DevLangDis or #SLPeeps and you have a presence on another platform, please share it so we can keep the beautiful conversation going.

Read the whole thread about the sham data from Reading Recovery. I could claim I teach kids to read by doing TikTok dances and my program will look awesome if I dump the data from the participants who don't progress.

My clinical take: SfV seems more powerful than PA. If a kiddo has poor PA but good SfV, the SfV compensates for the PA breakdowns. If they have decent PA but poor SfV, any imprecision they experience in decoding results in errors. We need more work on SfV. doi.org/10.1002/rrq.475

Also the desire to see them be novelists from the time they pick up a pencil. We don’t spend the time and effort to establish basic spelling and simple sentence proficiency before we have them trying to write their life story. Guess who I blame for that one.

NEW VLOG | Dr Jeanne Tighe and Dr Mahchid Namazi’s SPICES framework provides a fantastic guide on how to disclose a diagnosis of #devlangdis. According to Dr Tighe, "Terms have power. Parents want to know a diagnostic term for their child's difficulties." youtu.be/SmgK7jvmYkQ

Reminds me of, “Reading is a psycholinguistic guessing game,” the most damaging idea in literacy education. Both notions do students a disservice by dismissing the value of foundational competences and explicit instruction.
