Hey Friends new and old, IMPORTANT reminder: If you are with a woman out somewhere, say, a bar, and she quickly goes from tipsy to really, really drunk, she may not be drunk at all. She may have been drugged. She needs your help.

A practice I learned from trauma-informed care is to communicate clearly before I do any component of the physical exam (for example: “I am going to listen to your heart now—is that ok?”) I recently had someone express so much appreciation for this approach.

Being trauma aware in your friendships includes extending grace and compassion for the diminished capacity of those who are overwhelmed even when they don’t say it or look like it. Just a reminder that we are still in a pandemic and people have invisible loads.

Listen, pretending you’re fine when you are actually aching isn’t the badge of honor we think it is. May we grow a culture that honors this reality. #TrySofter

About ending mask requirements... While going through airport security, I took off my mask for the TSA agent for the ID check. He asked me to smile. The best part about masking while female has been not having to deal with men commanding me to perform happiness for them. Ugh.

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

If you’re against abortion, don’t get one. If you’re against contraception, don’t take any. If you’re against same-sex relationships, don’t have one. If you’re against same-sex marriage, don’t marry someone of same gender. Do not impose your beliefs & religion on all Americans.

Jesus was not a white, American man. The U.S. flag is not a symbol for the Church or for Jesus. The National Anthem is not a holy hymn. Slavery was not a “necessary evil” to build empire and to “bring” Africans to Jesus. Africa has long-known and welcomed Christ Jesus.
