2023 has been a special year: we released glittr.org. Since then it grew to more than 500 repos with #bioinformatics #training material. Kudos to all the contributors! Especially to Patricia Palagi - Hope for better πŸ‡§πŸ‡· 🚩🌟! and Yann Haefliger. Below are some top 3s of topics, organizations, and repos.

Finally over 100Gb on a Oxford Nanopore Promethion flow cell and still had 15% of the pores available! Woop!! Now I just need that cow skin for my GridIon and we will be unstoppable! πŸ˜‚

Minimap2-2.27 released with new presets for accurate Nanopore reads and Illumina Complete Long Reads (both recommended by vendors), along with a few minor features and bug fixes. Output alignment identical to v2.26 except the value at a custom tag. github.com/lh3/minimap2/r…

I wonder what this graph would look like in the US? And what an expansion looking at industry would look like? I know in agriculture there are lots of panels at conferences that are still only men, or maybe all men and a token woman. We can and should do better

Listening to a talk on on SEM (microscopy) and the presenter says "that chamber's pretty good size, you could fit a whole lobster in it if you felt so inclined," proving once again we Americans will use any form of measurement except metric.

Anyone's Oxford Nanopore run ever do this? The flow cell is running really well but this random blip happened overnight. This blip is not on the other PromethION flow cell that was running at the same time πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Dr. MaryAnne Drake talking about sparking curiosity and encouraging failure in your labs. Such an important part of science. We all fail, and often we fail a lot. So long as you pull a little nugget of learning from that failure, it's worth it.

#ADSA2024 How do you deal with a difficult team? - spend time outside of work - don't be afraid to meet 1:1 - sometimes you have to grit your teeth & move them on - sometimes they just need to go. Be unafraid to let them go - find the motivation for them being difficult
