Thanks Christina Tondevold for pulling together the virtual summit. I enjoyed this session with Andrew Potter about the connections between development of whole numbers and fractions. Got me diving back into my book!

An awesome explanation of multiplying fractions with Brittany Hege at the Christina Tondevold summit. Thanks so much Brittany! Your careful consideration of the "multiplier" and the "measure" really helped me to think about how I am going about this with students!

Watching the sun rise while walking to work and listening to some fab math thinking from the math is figureoutable podcast Pam Harris . Made me reflect on the importance of transferable thinking. Let’s build thinkers and reasoners! Can’t wait for the next book too!

Problem Strings!!! We are having so much fun exploring connections between numbers and building relationships. We are creating strings and trying old ones. Thanks so much for all your input Pam Harris - math really is figureoutable.

Imagine a world of maths where- * Ts take their time on a topic * Ts go in-depth with new concepts * (not just skate the surface), * & breathe. Change in maths ed – it's no easy feat. Yet, every impactful journey begins with a single step. Read more: loom.ly/4s7LXLU

Building community and routines at the start of the school year allows you to learn so much about your mathematicians! Finding lots of patterns with palindromes and playing math games.

Our programme of inquiry is structured to scaffold students' cognitive processes. Units go from surface to deep. Knowledge acquisition --> conceptual understanding --> application/transfer. Watch the International Baccalaureate session on how/why we did this here cdn.muse.ai/u/mDV7Go4/245e…

Talking about ways of thinking about multiplication, one of my G5 argued, …“but wouldn’t partial products always be more efficient than the algorithm because you can choose not to decompose the numbers right down?” 💥 Wait til we get even more sophisticated!

Ratio tables are so powerful to explore patterns and relationships! Some G5’s using them this morning with lots of “ohhh’s” as they explored relationships with doubling and multiplying over and adjusting back.

Thank you Michael Minas for the continual stream of fabulous maths games! Our G5 class in Singapore got seriously hooked on "Digits in Disguise" this morning.

Thanks so much Cat and Rob from the The Dyscalculia Network for an informative and affirming presentation about Maths Anxiety and Dyscalculia, very affirming and excellent quick takeaways. Lots to ponder as we implement these ideas in schools!

Misconceptions about division can keep popping up year after year and interfering with so many concepts - fractions, ratios - the list goes on. Enjoying the Make Math Moments free workshops on division - get registered!

We took some inspiration from "Counting on Frank" by Rod Clement to explore estimation vs calculation in G5. They each made their own 'estimation station' and we walked around and estimated and then calculated the volume of different containers using different units. Fun!

Look at the crazy shapes and lines hiding in this tree. Would be fun to find the different angles hiding. I wonder how close to 90 degrees that far left branch is? Why does it grow like that? My wonderings on a Sunday stroll!

Enjoyed the session from Dr Aylie Davidson at AMTOC on reasoning and why it should play a bigger part of every lesson! Thanks Angela Rogers for organising a conference where all this ideas can be amplified around the world.

Pattern power! Yesterday I was co-teaching in a class & we were exploring how knowing your 2x can help us with 4x and maybe even 8x. This morning the teacher sent me this photo of what this child chose to do as a 'free choice' before school. "Look Miss! It could keep going!"
