"Instead of new east-west pipelines, we need an east-west electricity grid that brings hydroelectricity from the four great hydro provinces — B.C., Manitoba, Quebec and Newfoundland Labrador — to their hydro-deficient neighbouring provinces." thestar.com/opinion/contri…

What's striking about capitalist civilization is that it has no real direction. There's no vision for social progress, no commitment to improving human welfare or ecology. All we get is the chaos of profit-oriented production and accumulation as the world burns around us.

Trump says any car “not made in America” gets a 25% tariff. That means EVERY car gets a tariff, cuz there’s no such thing as a “car made in America.” Only cars made in NORTH America. Every one of which has a lot of 🇨🇦🇺🇸 and 🇲🇽 content in it. #cdnecon /2

The new book by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson is grand sketch of liberalism's future that ultimately fails to reach beyond the lean horizons of its present. My review of Abundance: lukewsavage.com/p/the-paucity-…

TMX as "disappearing pipeline." One of the args I elaborate in my diss is (1) that pipeline's materially/symbolically vanish once operational & (2) that TMX specifically became a symptomatic absence in the pro-fossil fuel/western alienation discourse. hilltimes.com/story/2025/05/…

“New fossil fuel export infrastructure such as pipelines or LNG terminals are not in any way compatible with a credible climate alignment plan for Canada... Canada’s over-reliance economically on oil and gas is a significant fiscal liability..." theenergymix.com/pipelines-ccs-…

Wow. Carney didn't consult with chiefs before passing the megaprojects law, said he would consult after. Now during "consultations" he says their feedback won't change the law.

In this existential 'Elbows Up' moment for Canada's economy, public discourse has been overly influenced by loud demands from corporations & their political backers to implement their age-old agenda: deregulate (especially environmental rules), cut taxes, build more pipelines. /2

To broaden the discourse over Canada's economic strategy under Trump, @policyalternatives and Centre for Future Work (Canada) have released a new 'Factbook'. See it at policyalternatives.ca/news-research/…. #canlab /4

This spin on things is extraordinary. Carney's government quite literally tried to crush the strike within hours of it beginning and impose a contract on flight attendants from above. Now that the union has won, he's pretending he supported its cause the whole time.
