Today 12.08, the Geneva Conventions turn 75.🇨🇭played a major role in their adoption in 1949 and is still strongly committed. With >120 conflicts in the world, let’s take the opportunity to understand why the #GenevaConventions, a cornerstone of #IHL, remain as relevant as ever.💪

75 yrs on from their adoption, #GenevaConventions represent a universal commitment to a shared humanity. They are at the core of #InternationalHumanitarianLaw which regulates the conduct of armed conflict & seeks to limit its negative impact, particularly on civilian populations.

Let me add how honoured we all are that Amb. Nguyen Phuong Nga was able to join us. She's an inspiration to me and many diplomats, and has broken the glass ceiling as first female 🇻🇳 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affaires and as first female 🇻🇳 Permanent Rep to the UN in New York.
