#OTD in 2017, Poppyscotland released 46,000 Poppy petals from the Monument to commemorate the end of the Battle of Arras. At precisely 11am on 16th May, the poppies fell with each petal representing a Scottish soldier who lost their life or were wounded during the conflict.

#OTD in 1886, eleven stained glass windows were installed. The windows were the work of a company founded at the very start of the Victorian era in 1837, James Ballantine & Son, and their charge for the work they carried out at the Monument came to a total sum of £210.
