HMRC has released new guidance on the 5th SEISS grant. This time there are changes to previous grant schemes - you'll need to compare last year's turnover to a ‘normal' year. For a full SEISS briefing, subscribe to my newsletter eepurl.com/gW_qM5 #SEISS #SEISS5

Need to work out your 20/21 turnover to claim the 5th SEISS grant? Turnover = income received from customers i.e. before expenses. Don't include SEISS grants or other COVID support, & don't include income not from self-employment (eg PAYE, benefits, rental income) #SEISS #SEISS5

Planning on claiming the 5th SEISS grant? If 19/20 was your first year of self-employment, you won't need to provide turnover figures - you'll automatically get 80% of your average monthly profit. #SEISS #SEISS5

The SEISS claims portal is now open – you should have received a personal claim date. You can start your claim at tax.service.gov.uk/self-employmen…. You’ll need : - your UTR - NI number - turnover for 20/21 - turnover for 19/20 (or 18/19 if 19/20 wasn't a normal year) #SEISS #SEISS5

Claiming the 5th SEISS grant? You don't have to work out how much your turnover has reduced - HMRC's system will do that for you. You just need to supply the two turnover figures, for 20/21 and 19/20. Remember that turnover means the income you've received from customers. #SEISS5

When claiming the 5th SEISS grant, you have to declare that you believe your profit will be reduced from May - Sept. As long as you reasonably believe this at the time of your claim, you won't have to repay the grant if your business recovers after you claim. #SEISS5 #SEISS

HMRC have contacted some self-employed people who started trading in 2019-20 and who also claimed the 4th SEISS grant. If you've been contacted, you won't be able to make a claim for the 5th grant until you provide HMRC with information to verify your identity. #SEISS #SEISS5
